Food Photography in Pittsburgh PA
Pittsburgh PA isn’t New York, but it isn’t Podunk Kansas either… And as a food photographer here in Pittsburgh, I’m here to tell you that business is alive and well.
Here’s another food photo from a previous shoot that I thought you might be interested in discussing, from a food photography perspective. What I think is pretty cool about this shot is how it tends to be “just a little bit environmental”. The Puff is on a napkin, and it just sort of blends into the background, sort of like a photographic dream. The shadow also helps to anchor the visual, but not too much. This sort of shot is somewhere between an outline shot and an environmental shot. Some clients want this kind of photo, thinking that they can outline it later, but the problem is that because of the limited focus, it becomes impossible to “cut out” later. The romance that the limited focus brings to the shot, comes at a cost. You just can’t have it both ways. I have seen attempts to outline shots like this, and I’m here to say that It just don’t work very well, usually….
I guess this is why I like this shot so much though, it’s somewhere between a dream and something more useful… :o)
