Welcome to the Pittsburgh food photography portfolio of professional Food Photographer, Michael Ray. Michael is nationally known for the beautiful lighting and selective focus techniques that create his “look”, as a food photographer. Michael has worked with clients from all around the country, shooting for restaurant chains, independent restaurants, food manufacturers, catering firms, magazines, grocery store chains, among other types of food-related business.
Michael calls Pittsburgh his home but will on occasion travel to where his food photography skills are needed. He boasts a 3500 square foot studio specially designed for the art and craft of food photography. It includes a fully equipped kitchen, extra high ceiling space, lots of staging areas for the various stylists involved in food photography. He has a large area dedicated to prop storage and a comfortable area for clients to “hang out”. All in all, his Pittsburgh Food photography was designed with food in mind. The studio also has plenty of refrigerator and freezer capacity for storing the food before the shoot. After the shoot, the leftover food is usually donated to a local food bank or homeless shelter.
Michael is just as comfortable on location as he is in his studio and regularly travels to clients both in Pittsburgh and in different parts of the country. Because the studio is so well equipped, most clients choose to fly to Pittsburgh to have Michael photograph them in his studio, with all the available props and backgrounds.
When on location, Michael prefers to work with his 35mm equipment and when in the studio, he prefers to work with his Arca Swiss view camera. Both cameras capture the same resolution images and are great for even the largest reproductions.
